Pair of magnificent 19th century Marly Horses
A large pair of magnificent 19th century Marly Horses
Each spelter sculpture illustrates a dynamic horse rearing while being held back by its handler. The original marble works, crafted by Guillaume Coustou (1677–1746), were commissioned in 1738 by King Louis XV for his royal retreat, the Château de Marly. Today, the originals are housed in the Louvre Museum, while marble replicas have been installed at Place de la Concorde in Paris. Highly sought after by collectors.
